Rotterdam via Dublin DJ and producer @Ngoni-Egan debuts on United Identities with a five-track EP that pays tribute to his roots. “Re Teng” dives into Ngoni’s familial heritage in Botswana and explores his sound beyond electro.

The opener, “Kalahari To Fingal”, merges two worldsthe Kalahari Desert in Botswana and Fingal, Co. Dublin, where Ngoni grew up before moving to Rotterdam. He creates an ambient atmosphere with shimmering chords and organic percussion sourced from a self-produced sample pack. “Difaqane” delves into Ngoni’s electro palette with 808 drums and a gurgling synth line, with snatches of breathy vocals that convey a sense of unease.

The mood takes an uplifting turn on “Phase 2” with an acid-washed melody and tingling chords, while “Gaborone West Groove” rumbles through with a huge bassline and snappy percussion. On “Ikalanga” Ngoni samples his own vocals, repeating an indecipherable phrase between a robust bassline and a playful, bleep-filled synthline. A certified banger with a personal touch.

After years of practice in the studio, Ngoni’s innate skill to blend electro, techno and percussive textures comes to light on “Re Teng”.
